Cough Syrup

Ingredients: 1kg of the best red flat-shaped onion, but any red or yellow onion can work, 1/2 kg of honey, bay leaves.

Instructions: Peel the skin off the onion, cut into quarters, place in a pot together with the bay leaves (preferably in one of those pots for waterless cooking) and add as little water as possible, I add about 1-2 dl. Cover and cook on the lowest possible heat for at least one hour. If the water evaporates, add more. Strain through a fine strainer or even better, cheesecloth, because the medicine will be better the less residue is left. When it cools down, mix with honey. Store in the refrigerator. It is drunk as a syrup, 3 times a day, two tablespoons each, and the effect is felt as early as the first day. From this amount, you usually get one 1kg jar, although a lot depends on the type of onion. The mass should be gelatinous, but sometimes it is runnier, again presumably depending on how well the onion was strained. Pour a little into a coffee cup, heat for a few seconds in the microwave to make it liquid, and then use.

Despite the fact that onion is the main ingredient, the taste of this remedy is not bad, because the bay leaf improves it, but you can certainly add, for example, cloves or cinnamon to improve it even more.

Serving: You can make an excellent cough tea from the onion skins. Wash them, boil for a minute or two in water, and strain immediately. From boiling too long, and if not strained immediately, it becomes very bitter.

Onion

If you have a stubborn cough, try this onion-based drink. Peel the onion and put the whole thing in a pot, pour over at least two liters of water. When it boils, cover and let the onion cook for another hour or two, or until the liquid turns dark. Put two tablespoons of honey, two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and finally the juice of half a lime into a cup, then pour over with the hot liquid in which the onion was cooked. Every morning as soon as you get up and in the evening right before going to bed, drink this syrup and the cough will disappear in a few days.

Herbal therapy is ideal in case of a heavy cough. Certain herbal teas, such as those from eucalyptus, anise, fennel, are especially effective. To make tea from these herbs, it is allowed to put a pinch or two into boiling water and wait for the herbal tea to steep for a certain time. For example, roots should steep for 15, seeds for 10-15, and leaves for 3-10 minutes. Three to four cups are drunk daily.
