Fresh purple figs, one cut in half, with green fig leaves

If you suffer from diabetes, stomach ulcers or bronchitis, or struggle with high blood pressure, fig leaf tea is a real lifesaver.

Fig leaves are rich in antioxidants and fiber. Among other things, they contain vitamins A, B1 and B2, as well as the minerals calcium, iron, manganese, phosphorus, potassium and sodium.

Although the fruit is not recommended for diabetics because of its high sugar content, the fig leaf is very healthy and beneficial precisely for this group of people, because it helps regulate blood sugar levels.

The good news is that by drinking this tea you can even prevent diabetes, because it increases your insulin sensitivity.

Fig leaves are especially recommended for urinary and digestive tract problems.

Consuming them helps lower high blood pressure and blood triglyceride levels, which provides additional protection for the heart and blood vessels.

Although a certain level of triglycerides is necessary for good health, excess triglycerides in the body significantly increase the risk of obesity and heart disease.

It is precisely the fig leaf that helps lower and regulate blood triglycerides.

Benefits of Fig Leaves

  • Regulates blood sugar levels
  • Helps with weight loss
  • Stabilizes blood pressure
  • Lowers triglycerides

  • Helps with mouth ulcers

You can use the leaves of both green and black figs, as they are equally medicinal.

Besides making tea from them, you can also chew the leaves, which is excellent for stomach ulcers.

How to Dry Fig Leaves

In late spring, summer or autumn, pick healthy, whole fig leaves from the tree and spread them out on the surface where you will dry them.

Dry them in the shade, in a dark and well-ventilated place. You will know the leaves are dry when they are wrinkled and crumble between your fingers when you squeeze them. To make them dry faster, you can cut them into small pieces before drying.

Once they are dry, crumble them and store them in a glass jar with a lid.

Fig Leaf Tea

For health purposes, it is recommended to drink fig leaf tea every day for about a month, and then take a break of several weeks, so that renewed use has an equally strong medicinal effect.

For Diabetes

Pour a cup (200 ml) of boiling water over 2 teaspoons of dried fig leaves. Cover and let it steep for 10–15 minutes, then strain. Drink one cup of this tea every morning with breakfast.

For Stomach Ulcers and Mouth Ulcers

Every day, chew 2 tender fig leaves well and swallow them. Besides helping with ulcers, this will freshen your breath and soothe unpleasant mouth ulcers.

For Bronchitis

Boil 3 fig leaves in water with a little brown sugar, then drink. Besides diabetes, ulcers, mouth ulcers and bronchitis, this tea is also recommended for better heart health, for lowering blood pressure, and as an aid in the treatment of cancer and anemia.
